MariaDB 是一个开源关系型数据库，是 MySQL 的一个分叉。MySQL 于 2009 年被 Oracle 收购， 原创始人担心甲骨文公司收购MySQL后会有一些隐患，从而发起此项目。
MariaDB 在保持与 MySQL 高度兼容的同时，还添加了新的存储引擎和功能，成为社区驱动的开源替代方案。 它得到了广泛采用，被各大公司和许多 Linux 发行版所采用。
